First citizens' jury in Romania
In the Romanian city of Râmnicu Vâlcea, the municipality and civil society are organising the country's first citizens' jury. On 22 February 2024, invitations were sent out to 2,000 randomly selected residents of the city.
The city is working with the "Fundația Comunitară Vâlcea" citizens' foundation and the "Asociația H.appy Cities" association to organise the mini-public. The jury is also supported by experts from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Topic: local public transport
The topic of the citizens' jury will be the future of local public transport in Râmnicu Vâlcea. The 20 members of the jury will develop recommendations for action that will be submitted to the city council.
The citizens' assembly is the first project in which the city administration of Râmnicu Vâlcea has civil society as a partner. It is also the first project in which citizens are directly involved in solving an urban mobility problem.
